Around metro area neighborhoods residents have complained about these difficult to get rid of insects for the past few years. A Bed Bug Advisory Board has newly been formed in New York and a chief entomologist has been hired to handle the situation.

After a guest reported being bit by a bed bug when viewing a movie at the popular AMC Empire 25 Theatre in New York, management closed its doors to professionally treat the area and re-opened on July 19, 2010. Officials then inspected all of the Manhattan area AMC Theatres for possible bed bugs.

Why the resurgence of bed bugs?

Experts believe the reason for the tremendous increase in bed bug complaint's that have been received from clothing stores, hotel and motels, movie theatres, schools and households is due to the increase in travel and immigration. They also believe changes in pest control practices as well as a resistance to pesticides is another reason why the U.S. has seen a resurgence of bed bugs.

Dark and hidden places such as mattress cords, behind headboards, bedding, furniture and other interior areas are favorite spots for bed bugs to hide during the day. They come out during the night to early morning hours to feed. The best time to see them is around four in the morning.
